West Michigan Spartans Premiere Screening

  • Wealthy Theater 1130 Wealthy Street Southeast Grand Rapids, MI, 49506 United States (map)

The West Michigan Spartans invite you to the West Michigan screening premiere of “Through the Banks of the Red Cedar”, Wednesday September 12, 2018, at Wealthy Theater.  The documentary film focuses on how in 1963 Michigan State Head Coach Duffy Daugherty gave 23 African American young men the opportunity of a lifetime.

The daughter of football legend Gene Washington uncovers how the first fully-integrated college football team in America changed the game forever.  The documentary also includes recent players talking about the importance of those who came before them and paved a way at MSU.

The film screening will begin at 6:30 PM, and will be followed by a Q&A featuring MSU Legend and College Football Hall of Famer Gene Washington, and his filmmaker daughter, Maya.  We will end the evening with photo opportunities with Gene, Maya, and other Spartan athletes and dignitaries in attendance.

The West Michigan Spartans is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization and is the Michigan State University alumni club for Kent, Ottawa, Allegan, and Barry county representing more than 25,000 MSU alumni.
